Utter eyesore! Turn the ridiculous tennis courts into a garden. Whatever damage done to the upper floors when it was a dorm would be uppermost

too! Then, just soak in the magic of this grand home! And ...feel the dark shadows lurking about!

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048968877751194418.post-10526102289771415472023-02-02T10:23:19.004-05:002023-02-02T10:23:19.004-05:00While I love this house also, as so many of us do,...While I love this house also, as so many of us do, if it were mine, (when I hit lotto) I'd get rid of all the religious things, I am not catholic, and I don't like religious things in the house.
The stained glass windows are gorgeous, obviously, but I would donate them to a church and have my own windows installed, I don't like them for a house.
It is almost like living in a church, which I wouldn't want to.
But, oh what fun it would be to re-landscape this plot of land, re-stucco the house and a new slate roof, replace all the windows as they are in horrific condition. The solarium would make a gorgeous kitchen for todays standard of living, with the arched windows verlooking the land and sea, oh, that would be just amazing. I just sit here and think in my head allthe things i can do to this house. I do love the medevil feel of the front hall with the wrought iron chandeliers and beams across the ceiling, the tiles floor and so on.... While I love the outside of the house, the flow of the inside leaves something to be desired, especially in the year 2022, it isn't functional at all. However, in my fantasy mind I re-configure things, replace all the windows, sandblast the outside, replace the roof, re-landscape, and the list goes on and on... The solarium should be the kitchen with the huge arched windows looking at the sea, not tucked away on the inside of the house, but that's what they thought of a kitchen back then, purely a servants work space, where as in the year 2022, everyone congregates in a kitchen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048968877751194418.post-32975759921379608162022-09-17T16:41:29.899-04:002022-09-17T16:41:29.899-04:00For $30,000,000, and probably another $30,000,000 ...For $30,000,000, and probably another $30,000,000 to renovate this white elephant, you end up with a dungeon-like house that is a maze of ill-connected spaces. I have a book with the original floor plan of the mansion and the layout is simply scary. you have to walk thru the chapel to get from one end of the ground level to the other. it’s simply not a nice house. albeit I’d love to tour the house, to me it is an abomination created by someone trying to impress his neighbors. Sadly (or nor, depending on your views) the mansion is typical of similar homes from the period in that wealthy owners bought parts of ancient European buildings and had them shipped to the US, where they incorporated them into their new houses. This was not always done n the up and up. Chapel interiors, garden cloisters and other architectural features were often bought and sold illegally, without the knowledge of the often rural towns where the structures once stood. On the one hand, these things were possible saved from destruction. ON the other hand, their acquisition as a form of plundering.

In Seaview, we see many items from Catholic churches. A pair of elaborate, gothic wall niches meant to hold statues now hold potted trees. Several of the chandeliers are actually sanctuary lamps that once hung above church or cathedral altars. The upper half of a fireplace, carved with religious figures, is actually the upper half of an altar called the "reredos". That said, I love this place! Not sure who the nw owner will be but I hope they respect it's history and keep it intact, not divide it up into condos.Hanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04394379852357655547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048968877751194418.post-61319363893974549122019-02-15T15:51:34.981-05:002019-02-15T15:51:34.981-05:00This mansion is absolutely Breathtaking! This mansion is absolutely Breathtaking!Chazzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17194583788318325313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6048968877751194418.post-46815720475376199632016-07-05T15:37:55.285-04:002016-07-05T15:37:55.285-04:00The history contains minor errors.
