"The appropriation for a house should be divided into two equal parts, one-half for the house, the other for the gardens, pathways, court, approach, terrace and the rest of it, or, as it might be termed, one-half for the pudding, the other for the sauce." Architect Thomas Hastings

A PERGOLA ON LONG ISLAND, N. Y.
This is NOT a trivia question - Can you ID this location???
Just a guess- it's on the Sound, and what appears to be Sands Point can be seen to the west (left). That would place it somewhere between Glen Cove and Bayville. I'm going with Viking's Cove (the George Baker property).
I wish I knew. I checked the aerial shot of Viking's Cove and did not see any cliff-side pergola. The date of the photo is from the 19teens, the aerial sometime after that - so its possible structure was removed??? The columns have the same detail as the casino at Peacock Point but I see no remnants or plans for it??? Further research hopefully will produce more information.
Not Ormstron. Check this link from oldlongisland. Beach pavilion doesn't match. http://www.oldlongisland.com/2009/09/when-ormston-was-for-sale.html I rechecked my thoughts on "Viking's Cove" and still think it not a match. http://halfpuddinghalfsauce.blogspot.com/2012/06/elusive-vikings-cove.html
